we were given the task to record ambient sound, so we went to four different  locations  the elevator, the canteen, the stairwell and outside. ambient sound is the background noise of a recording, they can either make or break a sound, for example if there is a news reporter doing a story you wouldn't want any background noises in it so their voice would be crystal clear. but if there was a scene in a movie where someone was at a busy city  there should be background noises to add to the scene to make it sound more realistic.
