sound is very important in media because it can really add to a scene and tell you a lot about a character. music. and ambient sound can add suspense, drama , a magically feeling , a somber feeling and create a natural enviorment for example ambient noises can create a more natural enviorment for example in a movie scenes that are shot outside , using ambient noises like bird calls and wind can make the scene sound a lot more realistic. depending on the music used it can add drama and emotion to the scene, and even when there is no sound it can send a very powerful message the lack of sound in a scene could mean that the character is very depressed.sound is also used as sound effects for a lot of movies have bones breaking and you could use everyday items such as celery sticks to create a bone cracking scene, this is also what we did with a practical with paul.

                   Diegetic and Non diegetic sound

diegetic sound used in movie productions is when it is sounds that the character would be able to hear for example if they had broken their arm they would be able to hear it crack, but non diegetic sound that the audience would be able to hear but characters couldn't for example music playing on top of a scene to add drama to it. The audience will always be able to hear both non diegetic and diegetic sounds but characters can only ever hear non diegetic sound.

sound categories 

sound effects - sound effects, are sounds that are hard to capture / can't capture in scenes , especially fantasy shows there are sounds for things that don't exist so you have to create the own sounds , like light sabers don't exist so they needed to create 

voice - the dialogue , so what actors are saying in the scene usually from a script.

music - music that is added to heighten emotions in a scene, it can either be instrumental or non instrumental, instrumental is a piece of music that has no lyrics in it, where as non instrumental has someones voice singing in it.
